Built in 1958, the house was the home of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (1909-1979), the father-in-law of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates. Due to its prime location, it became the first landmark that travelers coming to Al Ain from Abu Dhabi would see. At the time of its construction, the house was a testament to the great transformation in the history of the Emirates (between the 1930s and 1960s), an era marked by the diversity and intermingling of architectural styles that developed as a result of oil exploration and discovery.
