Stop 1
Your driver and guide will pick you up from your hotel at 9.00 am to start the Nha Trang Countryside Tour. It takes us a short drive through the city to the countryside. You will experience the rural life of the local people. Our first stop is the Pagoda-Orphanage; This site shelters and cares for over 120 abandoned, orphaned or street children. They range from several months to 9 years of age. The children of the orphanage are taken care by a group of Buddhist nuns and volunteers. Their goal is to provide the children with a safe and caring environment which reduces their misfortune and gives their lives greater purpose and meaning. Being a private organization, the orphanage is trying to provide its children with food, shelter, health and education. The nuns at the orphanage have devoted their lives for the wonderful mission of helping needy the orphans. We will continue our Nha Trang Countryside Tour to visit a Rice Paper Making factory; One of the most popular foods in VN is made from rice steamed and processed into round pieces, dried in the sun on bamboo brackets, then offered for sale in the inns and shops locally, and commonly used to wrap the famous Vietnamese rice-paper rolls and Vietnamese spring rolls. Next, we will visit the place where they make the Non la (palm-leaf conical hat) which is a traditional symbol of Vietnamese people without age, gender or racial distinctions. Like many other traditional costumes of Vietnam, Non la has its own origin, coming from a legend related to the history of rice growing in Vietnam. The story is about a giant woman from the sky who has protected humankind from a deluge of rain. She wore a hat made of four round shaped leaves to guard against all the rain. After the Goddess had gone, Vietnamese people built a temple to commemorate her as the Rain-shielding Goddess. Vietnamese people tried to make a hat modeling after the Goddess' by stitching together palm leaves, which is now known as Non la. The image of Non la has become strongly associated with peasant lives from the paddy fields to boat men and women. Non la can serve numerous uses such as shade from the sun, a basket for women going to market, a fan of a ploughman in hot summer days, or even a keepsake to remember. The image of a young lady wearing Non la and Ao Dai is a beautiful symbol of Vietnam; Non la is also an object which, as part of the national spirit, closely links Vietnamese people, so many travellers enjoy taking a Non la as a special souvenir from Vietnam. Intricate manual work by women is accomplished here, and it would also be a great gift for your friends when you get home. The following destination of our Nha Trang Countryside Tour is a Rush mat weaving family business; How different our bed mats are from what you sleep on back home! View the material and weaving process. This mat is popular with most people in tropical weather. Two people working together will weave just four mats in a day, which…
