Itinerary

1
Stop 1
We typically meet at Huckleberry Roasters on Pecos Street. They have amazing coffee and burritos so we recommend arriving early to have breakfast. This coffee shop is 1 mile northwest of downtown so people can walk there, scooter, or take a short Uber. We will carpool to a hiking trail within an hour drive from Denver, and we'll hike for 2-4 hours in the Rocky mountains. We can fit up to 7 people in our vehicle and we do recommend driving yourself if possible.
2
Stop 2
Your starting point is Denver, and then we'll head west to the Rocky Mountains. It will be a 30-60 minute drive and then a 2-4 hour hike, depending on the trail and group's pace.
3
Stop 3
For those who are staying closer to the mountains or west of downtown, we can also pickup hikers at the Origin Red Rocks Hotel. The Origin Red Rocks Hotel is a modern, adventure-focused hotel located just minutes from Red Rocks Amphitheater in Golden, Colorado. It’s designed as the “official hotel of Red Rocks,” offering amenities for concert-goers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts, including gear storage, shuttle options, and stylish, comfortable rooms. We highly recommend this hotel for those wanting to stay outside Denver and closer to the mountains.
4
Stop 4
We'll pass through the charming town of Morrison. Morrison is a small historic town just west of Denver, known for its charming main street, red sandstone cliffs, and Old West feel. It sits at the base of the foothills and is the gateway to the world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The town is rich in geology and paleontology, with dinosaur footprints and fossil sites throughout the nearby Morrison Formation. Visitors enjoy restaurants, shops, and creekside views along Bear Creek. Despite its small size, Morrison attracts millions of visitors each year for concerts, hiking, and Colorado history.
5
Stop 5
Red Rocks Amphitheater is a world-famous outdoor concert venue tucked between towering red sandstone monoliths in Morrison, Colorado. Naturally formed over millions of years, its perfect acoustics and dramatic scenery make it one of the most iconic music venues on the planet. The amphitheater is part of Red Rocks Park, where visitors can hike, explore geological formations, and learn about the area’s ancient history. Since opening in the 1940s, it has hosted legendary performances and continues to be a must-see destination for music lovers and travelers. We typically do not stop here but we often can upon special request.
6
Stop 6
We'll do a 2-4 hours hike where we'll enjoy some sunshine, see pretty views, maybe see wildlife, take a few snack and water breaks, learn about the wildflowers and trees, make new friends, get some exercise and breathe in the fresh mountain air! In the winter months, we'll provide "Yak Traks" that you put on your shoes to improve the traction on ice and snow. The hike will be easy to moderate for people in good physical shape, but it can be very challenging for people who do not exercise regularly and are not used to altitude. The hike will take place in the Rocky Mountains west of Denver, NOT in Rocky Mountain National Park. The elevation will be somewhere between 6,000 and 12,000 ft.
7
Stop 7
If time allows, we will have an optional stop for lunch at a charming cafe on the way back to Denver.
8
Stop 8
Dinosaur Ridge, located just west of Denver near Morrison, is one of the most famous dinosaur fossil sites in the world. The area features well-preserved dinosaur footprints, bones, and ripple marks dating back over 150 million years. Visitors can walk along the ridge to see hundreds of tracks from species like Apatosaurus and Allosaurus, preserved in the tilted rock layers. The site is part of the Morrison Formation, a geologic treasure that has helped scientists understand Jurassic ecosystems. Dinosaur Ridge is now an outdoor museum, offering guided tours, educational programs, and hands-on exhibits for families and dinosaur enthusiasts.
