Independence Square in Basseterre is a beautiful compact public square, now serving as a venue for trade fairs, lunch breaks, or simply enjoying nature and the birds during a busy workday. Its shape resembles the Union Jack, and at its center lies a foundation that adds to its charm. Once an old slave market, this area has transformed into a peaceful and tranquil space.

From here, the island unfolds in layers of history and beauty: the neatly cultivated fields of St. Kitts, the majestic rise of Mount Liamuiga—visible on a clear day beyond the drifting clouds—and the silhouettes of neighboring islands on the horizon. Nestled in the historic town of Old Road, Wingfield Estate is situated at the base of the island's central mountain range, surrounded by lush landscapes. The estate includes the Wingfield rainforest and watershed, which supplies up to three-quarters of the island's water. The site showcases original crops like tobacco and indigo and illustrates the harvesting and preservation of sugar cane. Visitors can learn about the evolution of cane crushing methods—from animal and water-driven techniques to steam power—while exploring the ruins of the original rum distillery. Enjoy local culture with a taste of the island's rum or a freshly made non-dairy smoothie, and listen for the friendly Vervet monkeys. Local vendors and restrooms are also available.

Timothy Hill is the perfect way to conclude your excursion in St. Kitts. Standing approximately 179 meters (587 feet) above sea level, you'll enjoy stunning views of the island's most affluent areas. On one side, you can take in the breathtaking sight of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, visible together in one frame.
