Itinerary

Stop 1
This typical blue tiles tell the stories of the fishermen fishing at the atlantic ocean. Nowadays the harbour of Póvoa de Varzim is still one of the most important fishers harbours in the north of Portugal.

Stop 2
The Fishing Port is located in the coastal area that served as the starting point for fishing activity, marking the cultural essence of Póvoa de Varzim.

The majestic fortress originally had the function of defending the coastal area. During the trip, you will observe its charm and beauty.

This church has a lighthouse at the front. In the old days this lighthouse guided the fisher boats.

One of the biggest traditional fishermen´s community in the north of Portugal. With small houses facing the beautiful beach and the ocean.

At this place the traditional salted and dried codfish was produced. The field with the ancient equipment is still there!

A replica of an old Nau (=ship) as used in the Portuguese discovery-times.

A small chapel at the top of a hill with a shape of a mosque. We will enjoy the view for the Ave river and appreciate the magnificent blue tiles inside of the chapel.

The Carmo and Carmelitas churches look like the biggest church in the city. In fact, they are two churches separated by one of the world’s narrowest house. This baroque church has a famous tiled side facade.

Arriving to the Historical center of Porto, the first stop is in ´The hidden house´, it is situated between two churches. This house was built to make all contact between the nuns and the monks impossible.

We will walk along the streets, passing ´Livraria Lello´, one of the oldest bookshops in Portugal and recognized as “one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world” by the magazine ´The Guardian´, and the travel guide Lonely Planet.

This is a Baroque church is the highest Point in Porto, that can be seen from various points of the city and is one of its most characteristic symbols.

The main square of the city with its impressive characteristic builings. Here we have a great view at the city hall and the statue of ´D. Pedro IV´.

´São Bento´ train station. A 20th-century building known for the massive symmetrical facade and the tile-adorned vestibule with approximately 20,000 ´azulejos´ tiles.

The Sé, is an historic landmark in the old centre, where the city was born. The neighborhood ´Morro da Sé´ is the oldest district in Porto. The ´Sé Cathedral´ is one of the city's oldest monuments.

We will cross the Douro river by the upper deck of ´Dom Luís I´ Bridge to ´Vila nova de Gaia´.The double-deck metal arch bridge from the 19th-century is one of the city´s most characteristic symbols. From here you will have amazing views to Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.

Stop 23
We will arrive in Vila Nova de Gaia at lunchtime. You will have free time to lunch and enjoy the boulevard on the riverside with the beautiful view on the city of Porto.

Stop 24
After lunch you will embark on a typical flat-bottom-boat the ´barco Rabelo´ for a trip on the river Douro.

Stop 25
Your tour ends in the best way, with a Port wine tasting and a spectacular view on the city of Porto.
