The Burren in County Clare, Ireland, is a fascinating limestone landscape renowned for its unique geological features, particularly the clints and grykes that define its terrain. Clints and Grykes: Clints are the flat, exposed slabs or blocks of limestone that make up the surface of the Burren. These clints are often weathered and smooth, creating a distinct "pavement" appearance. Grykes are the deep, narrow fissures or cracks that separate the clints. These fissures form over time as rainwater, slightly acidic due to dissolved carbon dioxide, seeps into the limestone and erodes it. This process is known as chemical weathering.
