The Temple of Iria, dedicated to Dionysus, is one of Naxos’ most important ancient sanctuaries. Dating back to the 6th century BC, its impressive ruins reflect the island’s deep religious and cultural heritage.
3
Stop 3
The temple of Demeter was built in 530-520 BC. The temple is estimated to have been built a century before the Parthenon and was dedicated to the god Apollo, the view of Demeter and her daughter Persephone. Dimitra was the goddess of agriculture and fertility for this and the temple was built in a fertile valley next to the village of Sangri!

Stop 4
The Filoti Cultural Art Museum offers a glimpse into traditional village life on Naxos, showcasing local artifacts, religious items, and everyday tools. Housed in a restored building, it reflects the island’s deep-rooted cultural and agricultural heritage.
5
Stop 5
The Archaeological Museum of Apiranthos is a small village museum with rare Cycladic artifacts, marble figurines, and ancient carvings. It offers a fascinating glimpse into Naxos’ prehistoric past and local heritage.
6
Stop 6
The Kouros of Apollonas, near the village of Apollonas on Naxos, is a massive, unfinished 6th-century BCE marble statue believed to depict Dionysus or Apollo. Over 10 meters long, it lies in its original quarry, showcasing the skill of ancient Naxian sculptors and the island’s rich marble-carving tradition.
