Overview

Itinerary

Stop 1

Here you can discover the grandeur of the highest volcano in Costa Rica. Easily accessible and close to the city, it has five craters and breathtaking views. Observing the craters of the volcano is the main purpose of those who visit this National Park, located 19.2 miles (31 km) from Cartago city. With a beautiful mountain setting, low vegetation and a very wet and cold weather, this site presents fog most of the time. On clear days you can see from its top both Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, much of the national territory and, and with a telescope even the Lake of Nicaragua. Its maximum elevation is 11260 feet (3432 m) above sea level, being the highest volcano in Costa Rica.

Stop 4

Cartago is a Costa Rican city southeast of San José. It’s known for La Negrita, the Black Madonna shrine at Our Lady of the Angels Basilica. Founded in 1563 by Juan Vasquez de Coronado, it was the first successful establishment in Costa Rica. Many pilgrims come to Cartago annually, to visit the nation's principal church, the enormous Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, on the feast day of the Virgin of the Angels (August 2). The church has a statue of a Black Madonna known as La Negrita, who supposedly had great healing powers. The sick come to her statue in hope of a miracle from La Negrita.

Stop 5

Hacienda Orosi is a beautiful property that started as a farm for the cultivation of coffee because this region is one of the best for growing coffee. Currently the farm has beautiful facilities for international tourism. It has beautiful pools with mineral hot springs that come directly from the mountain. It also has pens with various farm animals and a high-quality restaurant. Upon arrival at this property, enjoy the beauty of the place and relax in any of the thermal mineral water pools.
