Stop 1
This walking tour starts from the emblematic building of Sofia University, the first university to be constructed in the capital after the Liberation. Strolling around the charming little streets behind the university, you will learn to recognize the different architectural styles that are embedded in the buildings around you – from gorgeous royal palaces to communist monumental ensembles. The whole neighbourhood is considered one of the most beautiful in Sofia and a gathering place for the 20th-century Bulgarian aristocracy. Your guide will lead you to a local spot where you will have the chance to try the most typical Bulgarian pastry - banitsa. Learn more about our culinary traditions there and try some of our iconic drinks and specialities.

Stop 2
Following this journey through tastes, your tour leader will reveal not only the main sites in the area but also Sofia’s well-kept secrets and places. Immersing yourself into the ancient history of the city, you will pass through Roman ruins and Medieval settlements only to reach the unique amalgamation of cultures and religions that emerged during Ottoman times. Get lost in one of the oldest streets in Sofia still teeming with local stories, nostalgy, and romanticism. Take a glimpse inside most of the landmarks, including St. Aleksander Nevski Cathedral, St. Sophia Church, Banya Bashi Mosque, the Market Hall and the oldest still functioning Christian temple in Europe - St. George's Rotonda. Your guide, who is an art historian herself, will explain in detail the meaning and symbolism behind the unique wall-paintings in those churches and the incredible history hiding behind each one of these iconic places.

Stop 3
The last part of the tour will introduce you to one more typical Bulgarian pastry which is a favorite for everyone feeling nostalgic about their childhood and life in the small village. Taste the unique Mekitsi dish, made of deep-fried kneaded dough and yogurt. The specialty goes well with a portion of homemade jam or organic honey. After this small stop, the tour will continue, immersing you deeper into the history of this 7000 - old capital. Finally, we reach our finishing point which is the magnificent St. Nedelya Cathedral.
