Shobak Castle, also known as Montreal, is a medieval fortress in Shoubak, Jordan. The Crusaders built it in 1115, and it is one of the best-preserved Crusader castles in the region. The castle is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Wadi Musa valley and the ancient city of Petra. It was built to protect the Crusader kingdom from Muslim invaders and served as an essential trade route between Egypt and Syria. Explore the ruins of the castle, including the keep, the towers, and the bailey. Visit the castle's two churches, one of which has been reconstructed.
