Visit gentoo penguins on a pristine beach during our 5-hour tour. A bit over an hour’s drive from Stanley, Bertha’s Beach will welcome us with its white sands and crystal clear water. The area has been recognized as a wetland site of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Bertha herself was a ship that didn’t make it, and got wrecked by the shore, losing its precious cargo – planks of cedar wood, scattered on the beach to this day (you will notice there are almost no trees in the Falklands). We will visit the colony of Gentoo penguins - noisy, but fascinating creatures. Lunch on the beach or in the car, your choice, might be a bit windy there. This is an active tour providing a rich overview of the wildlife, historic points of interest and what it is like to live in the Falklands. We will visit Gypsy Cove to see Magellanic penguins and harbour views, before moving on to Yorke Bay to see the Gentoo penguins. A brief stop at the iconic ship wreck Lady Elizabeth provides great photographs and an understanding of the geographic importance of the Falklands during the sailing ship days. During the tour of Stanley we will pass by the 1982 and 1914 war memorials, and other points of interest in Stanley.
